titleOfInvention | METHOD OF PURIFYING PENTACHLORPHENOL |
abstract | Impure pentachlorophenol is purified by distilling it at subatmospheric pressure, pref. 100 mm. Hg absolute, in the presence of contact water and salicylaldehyde. The product, a fungicide and preservative, is light yellow coloured, has little or no tendency to bloom, is free flowing in granular form, is essentially free of toxic impurities, and is essentially unchanged in appearance after long storage. The water and salicylaldehyde act synergistically to prevent decomposition during distillation. |
