abstract | Polyimidazolones consist mainly of units having general formula (I) (where R1 and R2 are aliphatic and/or aromatic gps. pref. 2-ring aromatic gps. having formula Ar-A-Ar, in which Ar is opt. substd. Ph and A is -CH2-, -SO2-, -CO-, -O- or -S-; and R3, R'3, R"3, R"3 and R'"3 are opt. gps., inert under the prepn. conditions). They are useful for prepg. heat-stable moulded bodies and coating compsns. Low mol. wt. (I) contg. NCO end-gps. can be processed to polyurethanes, polyisocyanurates or polycarbodiimides. Higher mol. wt. (I) can be used for foils, foams, insulating lacquers, coatings or fibres. (I) are heat-stable; partly soluble in CH2Cl2, CHCl3, DMF, dimethyl acetamide, dimethyl sulphoxide and N-Me pyrrolidone; and can be processed on standard machinery. |
