titleOfInvention POLYFUNCTIONAL ORGANIC ALKALINE METAL COMPOUNDS
abstract Soluble, polyfunctional organo-alkali metal cpds. with at least 2 alkali metal C bonds per mol. and an average mol. wt. 500-10,000,000 are prepd. by reacting a) divinylbenzene or its mixts. with other monoaromatic vinyl cpds. with b) organo-alkali metal cpds. with up to 50C atoms in the organic gp. in an inert organic solvent such that the amt. of divinylbenzene in the reaction mixt. does not lie above 2.5 wt. % (w.r.t. the reaction mixt.) and the mol. ratio divinylbenzene: alkali metal content has between 0.5:1-20:1. The polymers are microgels and used in initiating anionic polymn. reactions. They are esp. useful in preparing ester-shaped polymers, ie. polymers with any number of branches and no intermolecular crosslinking.
