abstract Cycloaliphatic nitro-oxirans of formula (I) are new. (where R is an aliphatic gp. pref. 1-18 (esp. 3-10)C alkylene opt. carrying inert substituents such as 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy, OH or NO2). (I) are intermediates for dyes, fungicides and pharmaceuticals; ignition accelerators for Diesel fuels (esp. (I) with R = (CH2)6); crosslinking catalysts for acid-cured synthetic resins (e.g. melamine-HCHO); and intermediates for pyrazines (into which they are converted by NH3) esp. when R = 1-18 (esp. 3-10)C alkylene opt. substd. by 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy, OH or NO2. (I) can be prepd. in high yield and purity on an industrial scale for nitro-cycloalkenes and H2O2 in presence of a basic mineral cpd.
