titleOfInvention | Binder solutions for stoving lacquers |
abstract | Binder soln, for stoving enamels is based on 100-200 pts. wt. org. solvent (I), 35-45 pts. wt. thermosetting melamine-HCH0 resin (II), partly etherified with i-Bu0H or n-Bu0H, and 55-65 pts. wt. thermoplastic acrylic resin (III) with 0h gps., in which the total amt. of (IIe and (III) is 100 pts. wt. (I) consists of a mixt. of 10-15% n-Bu0H or i-Bu0H, 20-35% white spirit, with 15-20% aromatics content and boiling range 130-175 degrees C, 35-60% aromatic solvent mixt., with boiling range 135-180 degrees C, and 10-20% ethyl glycol acetate. (II) consists of 12-16% hydroxyethyl methacrylate, 25-35% styrene, 30-40% n-butyl acrylate, 10-20% ethyl acrylate and 1-2% acrylic acid and the viscosity of a 50% (III) soln. in xylene at 25 degrees C is 200-700 cP. Soln. is esp. useful in the automobile industry. The enamels are suitable for top coats, which can be applied directly (by a single spraying operation) over baked electrodipping priming in dry thicknesses of 60-80 mum. The stoved films have excellent gloss and very good surface hardness and are resistant to chemicals, e.g. solvents and alkalis. Even when highly pigmented, they have high gloss and good elasticity. They show good adhesion, little discolouration at elevated temp., are resistant to rust spots and can be repaired easily. |
