abstract | N,N-Di-substd. formamides of formula HCONR1R2 (I) (where R1 and R2 are opt. substd. aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic gps. or R1 and Ri form a 5- to 7-membered ring together with the N atom to which they are attached) are prepd. by reacting N,N-tetra-substd. diaminomethanes of formula R1R2N-CH2-NR1R2 (II) with HCHO and H2O2, pref. in an aq. medium, at 0-100 (20-80) esp. 20-30 degrees C. (I), esp. dimethyl formamide, are industrial solvents, e.g. for poly-acrylonitrile fibre prodn. Starting materials are easily available; process is easily carried out; yields of (I) are good. |
