titleOfInvention | CATALYST FOR THE CONVERSION OF HYDROCARBONS AND THE PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION THEREOF |
abstract | A catalyst for hydrocarbon conversion comprises 25 wt% NiO, 50 wt% Al2O3, 14 wt% MgO, 10 wt% CaO and 1 wt% BaO. The catalyst can be used for the conversion of gaseous hydrocarbons into gases contg. H2, CO and CO2 by reaction with steam, CO2, or O2, esp. for steam reforming CH4. The presence of BaO (and absence of SiO2) increases the mechanical strength of the catalyst and increases its resistance to thermal shock. Cylindrical pellets of the catalyst (i.d. 7 mm, o.d. 15 mm, length 12 mm) have a rupture strength of 600-900 kg/cm2, an apparent density of 2.3-2.5 g/cm3, a total porosity of 20-30%, a specific surface of 60-90 m2/g, and can be rapidly heated and cooled between 20 and 1000 degrees C twenty times without disintegration. |
