abstract | (Co)polymers of diallylamine deriv(s). (I) and opt. comonomer(s) (II) are produced by photopolymerisation in soln. or suspension in the presence of not >30 wt% solvent or non-solvent (w.r.t. (I) and opt. (II)) with light of wavelength 150-500 m mu and opt. in the presence of a sensitiser, the monomers being (I): (CH2=CR1-CH2)2N circled positive R2R3 Y circled negative and (II): maleic acid or anhydride, N-vinylpyrrolidone and/or a vinyl cpd. of gen. formula CH2=CR4-CO-Z (in which R1 and R4 are H, (meth)allyl, linear or branched 1-16 C alkyl, 7-19 C phenylalkyl or a hydroxyalkyl gp. of gen. formula HO(CH2)m- with m = 1-6 or R2 and R3 together with N form a pyrrolidino, piperidino or morpholino gp.; Y is a halide or inorg. acid anion; Z is a gp. of gen. formula -OR5, -(CH2)n-N circled positive R6 R7R8 I circled negative or -NR9R10; R5 is H, Me or -(CH2)nOH; n = 1-5; R6, R7 and R8 are H, 1-3 C alkyl or benzyl; R9 and R10 are H, 1-5 C alkyl or -(CH2)pOH; p = 1-3). These copolymers can be used in paper mfr., sewage treatment, agriculture, as antistatic agents for fabrics and plastics, rubber vulcanisation accelerators, protective colloids, binders for glass fibres, polymer cross-linking agents, hardeners for epoxide resins, thickeners and photopolymers. |
