abstract | Photographic coating solns. contg. developer substances and the coatings made from them are preserved with a combination of sulphite ions and at least trivalent, water-soluble, oxidn-stable metal salt(s) capable of complex formation, pref. a Cr(III), Al or Zr salt, in a non-hardening concn. Salts of Ga, In and Ti are also suitable. The pref. salts are chlorides, acetates and nitrates, although sulphates and formates can also be used. Suitable concns. of the metal salt are 0.1-1.5 g/l in auxiliary coating solns. and 0.05-0.75 g/l in the soln. for the light-sensitive emulsion. The sulphite ion concn. is 1.0-10 g/l, the lower amts. being pref. in solns. for the light-sensitive emulsion. This preservative ensures improved image tone, even after prolonged storage at elevated temp. |
