abstract Condens. prods. (I) obtd. by reacting cycloalkanones of formula (II) with aq. HCHO soln. in the presence of NH4 salts are new: (R1, R2, R3 and R4 = H or 1-6C alkyl; n = 1-9 and R3 and R4 may be different in each R3R4C gp). Low mol. wt., water-sol. (I) are pptg. agents for e.g. dyes, tanning agents, anionic surfactants etc. so are useful in water purificn.; in the NH4 salt or base form (I) have boundary- and surface- activity useful e.g. in soaps, detergents, and as agglomerating agents; (I) also fix org. tanning agents to leather. and fix acid dyes; they are ion exchangers (or their inters) and in NH4 salt form, e.g. with nitrate or phosphate as anion, they are slow-release fertilisers.
