Agents active against endo- and ectoparasites contain at least one 5-carbamoyl-2-thiobarbituric acid deriv. of formula (I): (where R1 is opt. substd. aryl, opt. substd. aralkyl, opt. substd. cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl, alkyl alkoxyalkyl, alkyl-thioalkyl, haloalkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, haloalkenyl, alkylthiocarbonyl or alkoxy carbonyl; R2 and R3 are alkyl, alkenyl cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl or H, R2 and R3 not both being H; and X is O or S), e.g. 5-(4-chloro-carbaniloyl)-1,3-dimethyl-2-thiobarbituric acid, or its salt with a physiologically tolerable base. (I) are antiparasitic agents with much higher activity than the known 5-acetyl-3,3-dimethyl-2-thiobarbituric acid. They can be used in human and veterinary medicine against a wide range of endo- and ectoparasite such as insects, worms and arachnids, as well as protozoa. (I) also have molluscicidal activity. |
