abstract Catalysts for the purification of automobile exhaust gases comprise (a) a support contg. crystalline cellulose aggregates in an amt. (pref. 3-15 wt.%) such that the support contains pores with a radius of 500-75,000 angstroms and has a total porosity of 0.03 cm3/g; and (b) a catalytic component contg. Cr and Cu in an atomic ratio of =1:1 (pref. 0.1-1=1), pref. in an amt. of >=3% of the wt. of the support. The catalysts are pref. prepd. by moulding the support materials in the form of beads, calcining, applying the catalyst components, and calcining.
