Medicaments for controlling the deposition or dissolution of sparingly soluble Ca salts contain a phosphonic acid of formula (I): (where X is -NR2R3, -NR2-(CH2)n-NR3-CRR1-PO3H2; R and R1 are H or 1-3C alkyl; R2 and R3 are -CRR1PO3H2, -CH2- COOH, -CH2CH2OH or -CH2CH(OH)CH3; n = 2-8) or a water-soluble salt thereof. The medicaments can be used for the treatment or prophylaxis of disorders of the calcium or phosphate metabolism associated with excessive Ca phosphonate deposition (arthritis and other inflammatory diseases, myosotis ossificans, Bechtereis's disease, arteriosclerosis, kidney stones, gall stones, etc.) or with abnormal dissolution of bone substance (hypophosphatasia, osteoporosis, Paget's disease etc.). |
