abstract Colloidal dispersions of a solid in a liq. are produced by placing a compact body of the material in the liq. and bombarding an interface between them with a focussed laser beam. Process can be used to produce colloidal dispersions of all types of materials, esp. non conductors, much more rapid and simple than mechanical or electrical methods (e.g. milling or submerged arcing) and produces colloids of higher purity.
