abstract |
A tanker for liquefied natural gas is fitted with a heat insulated hold contg several cylindrical storage tanks. Each tank is supported by a carrier element of poor heat conductivity against the ship's bottom. The space between the tanks is filled by a prestressed non-load-bearing, insulating material (pressed foam plastics). This prevents the formation of cracks during the temp. changes in the hold. The use of foam reduces the wt of the insulation. |
