titleOfInvention | IMPLANTABLE NERVOUS STIMULATOR |
abstract | Respiratory pacemaker, comprises (I) a combination of a nuclear battery with a useful life of several years and electric elements for the conversion of electrical energy from the battery into a series of signals with a frequency/minute corresponding approximately to the rate of breathing, each signal consisting of several d.c. pulses, (ii) >=1 conductor which transfers the signals from a connector connecting the electrical element to a diaphragm nerve and (iii) an envelope contg. the battery, electrical elements and a connector for the conductor and sealing the contents hermetically against the damaging effects of liquids between organs in the body, so that the respiratory pacemaker can be implanted with a living body. Provides for the first time an implantable stimulator for the diaphragm nerve (nervus phrenicus), analogous to a heart pacemaker. |
