Ag and/or leuco dye with the photographic treatment soln., and measuring either (a) colour density change of test material after a given time, or (b) time reqd. to change colour density of test material to a given value. Test material is pref. prepd. by (i) coating a support with a dispersion of colloidal Ag in a binder or (ii) with a dispersion of Ag halide in a binder, exposure and developing of Ag halide layer; (iii) Ag vacuum deposn.; (iv) vacuum deposn. of Ag halide on a support, exposure to light, and developing of Ag halide layer.
