titleOfInvention BENZOYL ETHYL SULFONIUM SALTS AS MICROBICIDES
abstract Microbicidal agents contain salts of formula (I) (where R1 is phenyl opt. mono- or polysubstd. by halogen, OH, 1-4C alkyl, alkoxy or haloalkyl, or NO2; R2 and R3 are 1-4C alkyl; and X is the anion of an (in)org. acid). Salts of formula (I) in which R1 is phenyl or p-chlorophenyl, R2 and R3 are methyl or ethyl, and X is iodine or the methylsulphate group are claimed. (I) have outstanding antimicrobial activity against bacteria, moulds and yeasts and may be used in e.g. cooling water systems, papermaking, spinning baths in synthetic fibre prodn. electrophoretic baths, polymer dispersions, emulsions, and cutting oils.
