abstract Title cpds of formula (I): (where R1=opt. substd (cyclo)aliphatic, arylaliphatic, or aromatic gp; R2-5 are H or non-reactive gp. or together form a ring; and r5-8 are H, (aryl)aliphatic, or together form a ring) are formed by reaction at -10 to 150, pref. 0-50, esp. 20-40 degrees C of equimolecular amts of isatin-N-carboxylic acid amides (II) and hydrazines, R6NHNR7R8, pref. in a non-acidic solvent. Prods are inters for dyestuffs and heterocycle synthesis. When R7=R8=H, prods form derivs with ketones which are used in ketone isolation procedures.
