PVC material for the prodn. of metallised moulded articles consists of (I) 50 - 95 esp. 70 - 90 wt. % PVC, or a vinyl chloride copolymer contg. =20 wt. % comonomer, (II) 5 - 50 esp. 10 - 30 wt. % modifying resin contg. >=40 wt.% butadiene, with a Vicat value 75 degrees C, (III) opt. a compatibility - promoter, and (IV) opt. a filler. The metallisation is effected by roughening the surface of the article, sensitising, activating, chemically depositing a conducting layer, heat treating at 45 - 70 esp. 60 - 65 degrees C, and electroplating. Compared with metallised ABS resins, the present material gives metallised articles with better mechanical properties, esp. impact resistance and rigidity, and better flame resistance. |
