abstract Dehydrogenation of olefins e.g. n-butylene or isoamylase is carried out under isothermal conditions at 560-600 degrees C in the presence of steam in molar ratio to hydrocarbons of 10-20:1 using a rising stream of hydrocarbons, catalyst and steam contg. 5-60 kg/m3 catalyst. The catalyst is sepd. from the prod. regenerated with air in a fluidised bed at 570-590 degrees C and recycled in amt. of 80-200 times the wt. of hydrocarbon. The amt. of catalyst in the reaction mixt. is pref. 15-20 kg/m3 and it consists of 35-50 wt.% Cr2O3, 20-30% Fe2O3, 20-25% ZnO and 0.5-2% SiO2. The process is esp. suitable for prodn. of divinyl or isoprene for use in mfr. of synthetic rubber and gives increased yield and selectivity.
