abstract The sulphite liquor, at the green liquor stage and to 30 times dilution, is mixed with 0.2-10 wt.% pref. 0.5-5 wt.%, w.r.t. the green liquor concn., of oxidising agent pref. HNO3, a foam preventing agent, and 1-100% benzaldehyde, coumarin, or pine needle oil. The waste or toxic gases at a max. temp. of 22 degrees C, pref. room temp., are passed through this soln. in known manner. This is suitable for removing nitrous fumes from exhaust gases and also solids from waste gases of the cement industry.
