abstract | Conventionally marble-like material known as Sorel cement and used for flooring is prepd. by allowing aq. mixts. of MgCl2 and MgO to harden. In the new process an agent is added to raise the viscosity of mixts. prepd. from aq. MgCl2, pref. with s.g. >1.25 esp. >1.30 g/cm3 and MgO, with 3.5-0.9 pref. 2.0-1.0 pts. MgO to 1 pt. MgCl2, and gas is introduced into the mixt. to form a foam. The foam is opt. stabilised by a surface active agent partic. 0-5 wt. % of a partially hydrolysed polyvinyl acetate contg. 5-30% acetyl residues. Opt. 0-25 pref. 10-20 wt. % bentonite is added to liquid mixt. Material which has has s.g. 0.85 g/cm3 can be drilled, sawn and nailed and when prepd. in form of cast sheets is used as light building material for heat and sound insulation. |
