White or light-coloured liquid or powdered detergents, soap-bars,shampoos, cold-creams, lotions, moisturisers, make-up, hair-removers, deodorants, cleansing agents, shaving creams and powder contain 0.1-3 wt.% anti-microbial agent consisting of a fraction prod. (A) of 2-10 (2-4) moles Zr salt, esp. Zr acetate, per mole phenol cpd. of formula (I): (where X is -S-, -O- or -CH2-, Y is H, cl or OH and n is 1 to 4) pref. hexachlorophene or 5-Cl-2-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)-phenol. Use of (A) prevents discolouration caused by phenol decompsn. through light, without reducing germicidal/bactericidal props. of (I). |
