abstract | Plastic oatings are deposited on conductive cathode-forming surfaces from an aq. monomer soln. bath contg. (a) 20-75 (30-70)wt.% acrylonitrile, opt. together with 0-300 (0-80)wt.% (w.r.t. acrylontrile) further co-monomers esp. Bu acrylate, glycidyl methacrylate and/or N-vinyl pyrrolidone, (b) 0.01-25wt.% water, nc) >=1 organic solvent having a dielectric constant 10, (d) 0.5-25 (0.5-6)wt.% (w.r.t. total soln.) of a conductive salt having the formula: (R4N)nX (where R may be same and denote H or 1-6C alkyl, X is a halide, sulphate or sulphonate gp. and n is 1 or 2). Pref. solvents are Bu acetate and/or xylene. Prodts. are pref. hardened by heat and/or radiation and are useful as corrosion-protective coatings on metals or metallised or graphite-coated plastics, glass or ceramics; for lining vessels, bonding layers or decorative effects. |
