abstract Virustatic compositions contg. more than 0.5% thymidine (I). Unlike known virustatic agents such as 5-iodo- or 5-ethyl-desoxyuridine, (I) has no teratogenic or mutagenic activity; and is more readily available (from natural sources). Pref. composition contains 2-5% (I) as parenteral solutions in sterile water. EXAMPLE 50 hamsters were infected with a herpes virus suspension (applied topically), then divided into 5 groups of 10. Four groups received various amts. of (I); the fifth was a control. Results were: Animals received (I) for 10 days before infection.
