R2 is OH, -CH=(COOR3)2 where R3 is R1, -O-alkyl, or -CH2-COOR3) are prepd by treating a cpd of formula (II): with O2 in the presence of a proton acceptor. Cpds (I) may be converted to the pharmaceutically active quinoline derivs which are anticarcinogenic and anti-malaria agents. |
