titleOfInvention 2-CYANBUTADIENE POLYMERIZATION
abstract Homo- and co-polymsn. of 2-cyanobuta-1,3-diene (I) is carried out by reacting a soln. of (I) and opt. other monomers (II) in an organic solvent (III) at -100 to +30 degrees C with a phosphine (IV) as initiator. The prods. are thermoplastics, suitable for moulding. (II) pref. is an ethylenically unsatd. polymerisable cpd. (1-70 wt. % w.r.t. (I)) and (II) an aliphatic or aromatic (halo) hydrocarbon, to give a 2-30 wt. % monomer soln. (IV) pref. is a tert. aliphatic phosphine of formula PR3 (in which R is 1-6C alkyl, e.g. Et or n-Bu) and its concn. 0.2-10 wt. % w.r.t. monomers.
