Dyes are of formula (I): (where R and R1 are each alkyl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl with 1-9 C atoms, or phenyl or naphthyl in which 1-3 H atoms can be substd. by Cl, Br, methyl, ethyl, methoxy and/or ethoxy; n is 6-8 when R and R1 are alkyl or cycloalkyl, and n is 6-16 when R and R1 are opt. substd. phenyl, aralkyl or naphthyl). Prepd. by reacting N:N1-dialkyl-, N:N1-bis-cycloalkyl-, N:N1-bis-aralkyl or N:N1-diaryl-perylene-3:4:9:10-tetracarboxylic acid diimides with Cl2 at 0-120 degrees C in a strong mineral acid in the presence of halogenation catalysts, esp. I2. E.g., Perylene tetracarboxylic acid-N:N1-bis-phenylimide is chlorinated in chlorosulphonic acid in the presence of I2 to give a dye contg. 47.8% Cl, is 14 Cl atoms. Cpds. are orange dyes for thermoplastics. |
