Prepn of (I) involves either reacting an organophosphorus cpd of formula (R8O)(R9O)P(O)-CHR6R7 (where R8 and R9 are lower alkyl) with an O-protected analogue of (I) in which the 17-posn carries a formyl gp. or reaction of a corresp. 3-OH cpd with a protected rhamnosyl halide. |
