titleOfInvention Process for the preparation of N-substituted anthranilic acid derivatives
abstract Title cpds. of formula (I): (where R1 is furfuryl opt. substd. by not >4C alkyl or is benzyl or thienyl, and R2 is -COOH, -CN or -COOr3 in which R3 is a cation), which are known diuretics and saluretics, are prepd. in good yields by reacting corresp. amino cpd. with a quaternary cpd. of formula (III) (where R4, R5 and R6 are alkyl, pref. methyl, and Hal is halogen, pref. I) and isolating (I) from the reaction mixture. Unlike furfuryl halides, the starting materials (III) are cheap, stable, and readily obtainable.
