abstract | Cpds of formula CnF2n+1 (CR1R2)m-I (in which n is 3-20 (6-12), m is 2-6 (2), R1 isH or alkyl and R2 is H or halogen) are made by reaction of low mol wt perfluoroalkyliodides with perfluorethylene or perfluoropropylene opt. contg 1 Cl atom and subsequently with an olefin opt. substd with halogen or alkyl in presence of a catalyst, at 50-300 degrees C and 0-200 atmos. The catalysts are made by heating a salt of metals in Gp. Ia, IIa, IIIa, IVa, Va, Ib or VIIIb or mixts of these, with pri., sec., tert. alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or lakanol-amines or mixts with a ratio of metal salt/amine of 1:0.01-4 (1:0.05-1). The lower liq. perfluoroalkyl iodide telomers are pref. distilled off before adding the olefin and returned to the initial reaction stage where they function as solvents. The prods are suitable as inters for prodn of oleophobic, hydrophobic and soil release agents e.g. in textile finishes. |
