The dyes are of formula: (in which R is (m)ethyl; R1 is 1-8C alkyl, benzyl, phenylethyl, 2 or 3C hydroxyalkyl, 4-10C alkanoyl oxyalkyl, opt. by Cl, methyl methoxy, carbomethoxy or carboethoxy substd. benzoyl oxyalkyl or R2 and R3 are H, Cl or methyl; B is =NH or =O; n is 0 or 1; X is NA or S; A is H, or (m)ethyl; Y is H, methyl or phenyl, and Z is H, phenyl or carbalkoxy, or Y and Z together form part of a benzene ring opt. substd. by methyl, (m)ethoxy or Cl), and they are prepd. by condensation of 1,2,2,4-tetramethyl 6-formyl 7-hydroxy, -methoxy or -ethoxy 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolines with 2-cyanmethyl benzimidazole cpds., followed by opt. dealkylation, by ring closure and opt. quaternisation. The dyes are brilliant yellow to orange, and suitable for dyeing and printing polyamides, polyesters, cellulose acetate and acrylonitrile, and for pigmenting plastics. |
