abstract alpha-Acyloxy ketones and alpha, beta-dialkylacrylic acids are produced simultaneously by reacting alpha, beta-dialkyl-acroleins with O2 or O2-contg. gases at 20-130 degrees C in the presence of aliphatic carboxylic acids and of >0.5 g/l. of soluble organic and/or inorganic Mn cpds. The alpha-acyloxy ketones (often only obtainable with difficulty by other routes) are inters. for e.g. pharmaceuticals and pesticides. The proportion of acyloxy ketone to dialkylarylic acid product can be increased by appropriate variation of reaction conditions.
