titleOfInvention (chloro) alkanesulphonic acids prodn - by sulphochlorination of paraffins in presence of photoactive light
abstract Alkanesulphonates and/or chloroalkanesulphonates are mfrd. by sulphochlorination of paraffinic hydrocarbons with SO2 and Cl in presence of photoactive light e.g. UV radiation, using for the sulphochlorination a mixt. comprising beside the SO2 and Cl, 15-60% w.r.t. vol. of SO2 of oxygen. The resulting sulphochlorination products are then saponified, in known manner, using aq. alkali hydroxides. Presence of air ensures better utilisation of the SO2; SO2/air mixts. available as cheap gaseous effluents in various industrial processes may be used.
