titleOfInvention | Process for the preparation of a catalyst |
abstract | Cyclohexanone oxime is transformed in the gaseous phase to epsilon-caprolactam by passing through a turbulent bed of a catalyst, held at 210-440 degrees C, pref. 250 degrees-370 degrees C consisting of B2O3 or cpds. forming B2O3 on a support of Al2O3. the Al2O3 is prepd. by hydrolysis, by aq. ammonical or aq. alcoholic solns. of Al alcoholates or organo-Al derivs. The B2O3, or deriv. such as H3BO3 or boric esters, are pptd. on the Al2O3, dried, heated to 150 degrees-400 degrees C, ground to 0.01-2 mm pref. 0.2-1 mm, then heated to 400-500 degrees C or pref. 800-1000 degrees C. The catalyst particles do not break down readily by abrasion, when used in turbulent beds. |
