abstract An apparatus for separating components of a solution, comprising: a chamber for receiving the solution; an outlet tube connected to the chamber for receiving the solution from the chamber, the outlet tube having a smaller diameter than the chamber; and a porous composite sorbent within the outlet tube for retaining one or more components from the solution, wherein the composite sorbent is in the form of a sintered solid composition comprising at least sintered porous polymer particles and sorbent particles and which is fit into the outlet tube; to form a close fit within the outlet tube, and wherein the outlet tube has a throat with the effect of preventing movement of the composite sorbent in the outlet tube beyond the location of the restriction.
