the elements comprise a number of aligned dipoles embedded in a dielectric matrix. Each dipole contains two conducting particles one of an element with an even no. of outer shell electrons and a magnetic moment and the other with an odd no. of electrons in its outer shell. Pref. the matrix contains 1-2% radioactive material selected from Th, U, Po, Co and the two particles are of Co, Ni or Fe and Al, Ag, Cu, Pt, Au, Cs, Pd, Rb or Ru. The matrix is of glass or quartz and Al2O3 and/or silicon carbide. A mixt. of two types of particles and unhardened matrix material is subjected simultaneously to an electrostatic and magnetic field to align the dipoles after which the matrix is hardened. |
