abstract The extraction is carried out by reacting the essentially dry sulphide contg. material, e.g. heavy metal sulphide concentrates, or ores contg. a mixture of heavy metal sulphides and oxides, directly with SO3, or an anhydrous mixture of SO3 and O2, the minerals being thereby converted to sulphates which are then leached using an aqueous medium, and the metal being obtained from the water insoluble residue. The ores pref. contain Cu, Fe, Ni, Zn, Pd, and/or Mo, and are esp. chalco pyrites or a chalcosin mineral concentrates.
