A method for making doors, panels, furniture components, or similar cladding items, esp. with either smooth or profiled surfaces, consists of casting, into a mould having the desired surface shape, a layer of unpolymerised plastics, then laying a core of wood, or a chipboard glass, or plastics panel onto this while it is still soft, leaving a peripheral gap all round between the core and the mould, then filling this gap with the plastics and polymerising the whole. Prefd. materials are polyester resins and styrene, optionally with accelerators, hardeners, plasticisers dyes and fillers. |
