abstract |
Cpds. of general formula (I) : (where n is 1,2 or 3) are prepd. by reacting halophenyl acetic acids of formula (II): (where Hal is F, Cl or Br) with alkalihydroxides at 150-300 degrees C under pressure and in the presence of a combination of copper salts and metallic copper or Cu-cps. produced from the combination during reaction. The acids are then liberated from the salts obtained. (1) are intermediates in the synthesis of choleretically-active cpds. The process gives high yields of high purity. The metallic Cu may be in the form of powder, shavings or the wall of the copper reaction vessel. |
