abstract | Acrylonitrile is prepd. by contacting a mixt. of C3H6, NH3 and O2 in the vapour phase at an elevated temp. with a catalyst contng. 5-60 atom % Mo, 25-70 atom % Bi, : and 5-70 atom % Sb, in addition to oxygen. The catalyst has a high selectivity and gives high yields of acrylonitrile Formation of by-products, such as acetonitrile, propionitrile, HCN, acrolein, CO and CO2 is decreased. The catalyst contains 5-45 atom % Mo, 50-70 atom % Bi and 5-45 atom % Sb. The catalyst also contains up to 3 wt.% oxide of P, As, B, S, Te, V, Sn, Ce or La. The gaseous reaction mixt. is diluted with steam. The reaction temp. is 400-600 degrees C. |
