titleOfInvention | Acrylic or methylacrylic acid - from their aqueous solution |
abstract | A diluted aq. soln. containing less than 70 wt. % of the title cpds. is subjected to an esterification in the presence of an alcohol and an esterification catalyst, the soln. being brought into contact with a two-fold wt. excess (w.r.t. title cpds.) of a solvent mixture whose solubility in H2O is very low. The solvent mixture contains at least 1 satd. hydrocarbon and at least 1 aromatic hydrocarbon, an ether and/or a ketone. The ester of the title cpds. are thus transferred to the non-aqs. phase. Uses to separate the title cpds. after their formation by the oxidn. of propylene, acrolein, isobutene or methacrolein. Advantages are that the process is cheap and avoids loss of product through polymerisation. |
