titleOfInvention | Analyzer for analyzing ions with a high mass-to-charge ratio |
abstract | A mass analyzer comprising: an electrostatic mass analyzer for receiving ions therein, the electrostatic mass analyzer comprising: a detection system for detecting the ions in the electrostatic mass analyzer; a signal processing system for determining the mass to charge ratio of at least some of the detected ions; and a control system configured to control the introduction of the ions into the electrostatic mass analyzer so that the absolute velocity in the electrostatic mass analyzer of at least some of the ions whose mass-to-charge ratio is determined is not greater than 8,000 m / s, and which is configured to control the average path length during the duration of the detection of such ions, whereby it is longer than is necessary to detect such ions with a resolving power of 1000 of the mass-to-charge ratio. |
