titleOfInvention | Grid design for a III-V compound semiconductor cell |
abstract | A photovoltaic solar cell concentration arrangement for generating energy from the sun, the following being provided: a concentrating lens for producing a light concentration of more than 500 ×; and a solar cell in the path of the concentrated light beam, including a germanium substrate including a first photoactive junction, forming a bottom solar cell; a gallium arsenide center cell disposed on the substrate; an indium gallium phosphide top cell located above the center cell and with a bandgap to maximize absorption of the AM1.5 spectral region; and a surface grid disposed over the top cell including a plurality of spaced grid lines, the grid lines having a thickness greater than 7 microns, each grid line having a cross-section in the form of a trapezoid having a cross sectional area between 45 and 55 square microns and suitable is to conduct a relatively high current generated by the solar cell. |
