A medical device comprising: a catheter adapted for intravascular introduction into a blood vessel; an expandable balloon at a distal end portion of the catheter, wherein the expandable balloon is configured to vary between a delivery configuration and an expanded configuration; a first electrode having a first pair of bipolar contacts attached to the expandable balloon; a second electrode having a second pair of bipolar contacts attached to the expandable balloon; wherein the first electrode and the second electrode are longitudinally spaced and circumferentially offset from one another when the expandable balloon is in the expanded configuration, the first and second electrodes being configured to apply thermal energy to less than the full circumference of the blood vessel Patients. |
