titleOfInvention Fortified phenolic resins
abstract The flexibility, toughness, and resistance to shock, heat and chemical attack of phenol/aldehyde (HCHO) resins are simultaneously improved by incorporating in the resin, either at the initial reaction stage or resinoid stage, 0.2-9 parts per part of resin of an alkoxymethyl diaryl oxide having an average of 1-4 alkoxymethyl gps. and in which the alkoxy groups have 1-4C atoms and the aryl groups are hydrocarbons of the benzene series (Ph). The improved resins are used as binders in moulding compositions, adhesives in laminates, and as protective coatings for metals.
