A coating composition for transparent, mechanically stable corrosion protection layers for metals is described which contains a bis (silylorganyl) sulfide as an adhesion promoter. The coating solution is a hydrolysis and condensation product of a mixture of 20-90 mol% of one or more metal or semimetal alkoxides, 10-80 mol% of one or more hydrolyzable organosilanes, 0.05-10 mol% of one or more bis ( silylorgano) sulfides, 0-3 mol% of one or more organosilanes with a fluorine-containing side chain, and 0-10 mol% of a reducing agent soluble in the solvent used. The coating composition is suitable for coating metals with thermal hardening, good wetting and adhesion to a wide variety of metals are obtained. Despite the thin layer, the coating provides effective corrosion protection that can withstand 72 hours of salt spray testing without damage. |
