abstract At least one component of an antifriction bearing (inner raceway, outer raceway and rolling elements) is made of a steel material which contains 0.2 to 1.2% by weight of C; 0.7 to 1.5% by weight of Si; 0.5 to 1.5% by weight of Mo; 0.5 to 2.0% by weight of Cr; and contains 12 ppm or less of O. The bearing component is treated by carbonitriding and then quenching and tempering in order to achieve a carbon concentration on the steel surface which is between 0.8 and 1.3% by weight and a nitrogen concentration of the same surface between 0.2 and 0. 8% by weight.
