The enzymes of alpha-oxidation can be used in yeast for carbon chain shortening, for hydroxylation and for enantiomer or diastereomer differentiation of chiral compounds. The enzymatic alpha-oxidation reaction has so far only been observed in the animal and vegetable systems, but not in yeasts. |
